Many years ago, when I was still a wee kid, some good friends of ours moved to Australia. We were sad to see them go, as we got on so well with their kids. Then one day there was a knock at our door, and when we opened it the whole family was standing there – they had returned, unexpectedly. It took us a moment to process that they were really there. I was reminded of this when I read the account in Acts where Peter had been arrested and imprisoned awaiting trial. An angel miraculously freed him, and he went to the house where he knew everyone would be gathered. "He knocked at the door in the gate, and a servant girl named Rhoda came to open it. When she recognized Peter's voice, she was so overjoyed that, instead of opening the door, she ran back inside and told everyone, 'Peter is standing at the door!' 'You're out of your mind!' they said. When she insisted, they decided, 'It must be his angel.'" (Acts 12:13-15). Rhoda was so overjoyed she forgot to open the door – a joy that explodes beyond what the mind can comprehend. And it's this exact joy we are all promised when, defying human reason and every expectation, Jesus returns and knocks at our door. "I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy." (John 16:22). Jesus is coming, and those who have waited will experience joy beyond words. (Craig B).
