The household staff didn't drift off when the city celebration wound down; they kept moving, coats on, lights lit, finishing tasks and checking the doors as if he might arrive at any moment. Their employer had a habit of returning late, and no one wanted to be found idle. When the gate finally sounded, they were already in motion, ready for instructions. But when he stepped inside, he said nothing about the work. He took off his coat, told them to sit, and before anyone could object, he laid the table, brought out food, and began serving them one by one, as if their quiet diligence had been the very thing he came home to meet. This is the essence of a story Jesus tells in Luke 12:35-38. It's a crazy plot twist. He talks about the master of the household coming back unexpectedly and finding his servants ready — and then he does the unexpected: "Truly I tell you, he will dress himself to serve, will have them recline at the table and will come and wait on them." (Luke 12:37). This is the incredible King we follow. Unlike human leaders who seek to be served, Jesus is defined by service. His life was given in service. And even when he returns triumphant in his kingdom, first he serves. Who can you serve today? (Craig B). Open Bible – bit.ly/Luk12v35-38, bit.ly/Luk12v37
