Two ways up

Two ways up

On a recent hike I reached a track up a hill that had two sections to it: one of solid rock and another of loose pebbles. Walking on the pebbles was exhausting; I slipped and struggled to make headway. But walking on the solid rock offered a firm grip, making the climb much easier. This is exactly what it is like to serve the Lord. We can try to navigate the steep hills of life in our own strength, or we can rely on His. The Apostle Paul writes about this, comparing our lives to building a house. Some build with wood, hay, and straw, which burn away when the fiery trials of life come, though the builder is saved. Others build with gold, silver, and precious stones, creating a house that endures the fire (1 Corinthians 3:12-15). Both are saved, but the journey and the lasting impact are entirely different. As we head toward God’s Kingdom, He wants us to walk in Jesus’ power, not our own. As Paul reminds us, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13). How will you live today – in my strength of His power? (Craig B) Open Bible – bit.ly/1Co3v12-15
