The big deal

The big deal

A young software developer had spent years building an app in the evenings after work, pouring every spare hour into it, but had no success selling it. Then one ordinary Tuesday he met an old mentor who simply told him to try again. Even though he felt he’d tried everything, he tried one more time and everything changed, the app took off, downloads surged, and investors began calling with offers big enough to change his life. For a moment he stood at the threshold of what he thought he wanted, wealth, recognition, security, but the mentor invited him instead to leave that success and join an outreach mission fixing rural schools in poor communities. Everyone expected him to cash in, yet he walked away and chose to follow his mentor and his plans. This would be a crazy story, but it is exactly what happened when Jesus called his first disciples. After an unsuccessful night of fishing, Jesus tells Peter to try one more time, and they bring in a haul so big it needs two boats. But when Jesus invites them to follow him, we read, “They pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him” (Luke 5:11). No matter what we achieve in life, even through God’s blessing, the greatest blessing comes when we follow him, no matter how crazy it seems. (Craig B) Open Bible – bit.ly/Luk5v1-11
