He Saw It Coming

He Saw It Coming

I'm reading about a woman who lives in two parallel times – she knows the future but can't act on it, and watches events unfold with dread. For Jesus, this was fact, not fiction. By God's divine power he knew what was coming, and not just that it involved him – he knew the graphic details. From the Psalms he knew exactly what would happen on Passover day in Jerusalem: he would become the sacrifice, dying a cruel death on the cross. "I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart has turned to wax; it has melted within me. My mouth is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth; you lay me in the dust of death. Dogs surround me, a pack of villains encircles me; they pierce my hands and my feet." (Psalms 22:14-16). Every graphic detail, recorded centuries before. Yet, despite knowing all of it, "As the time approached…Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem." (Luke 9:51). "For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame" (Hebrews 12:2). Jesus didn't just give his life for us – he gave it with full knowledge of what that would cost him. That kind of love is beyond comprehension. What will you do with it? (Craig B).
