The birds and the bees

Here is something I had never really considered. Much of life depends on plants, and many of those plants depend on birds and bees for pollination. Yet the remarkable thing is, the birds and bees are not trying to pollinate anything. They are simply feeding. Pollen sticks to their bodies, feathers and hairs, and as they move to the next flower, some of it rubs off. In doing what they were designed to do, they unknowingly help create fruit, seed and new life. There is something profound in that. God has also designed us to live in a particular way. "For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works" (Ephesians 2:10). Jesus described it as a life that naturally produces fruit: "If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit" (John 15:5). Perhaps we sometimes try too hard to manufacture impact. The bee does not wake up thinking, "How can I change the world today?" It simply does what it was made to do. And perhaps the same is true for us. When we live the life God designed us for, fruitfulness becomes a natural consequence. We receive life from Him, and without always even realising it, we leave life behind wherever we go. (Craig B).
