Shoes on

Shoes on

When we let our small dogs outside, we have to watch them carefully – our property borders an open vlei, and if they spot wildlife they revert to their wolf state and race into the bush. We must also have our shoes already on, because if they dart and we have to first find our shoes, they'll be long gone. This reminds me of Israel's instruction at the first Passover: "This is how you are to eat it: with your cloak tucked into your belt, your sandals on your feet and your staff in your hand. Eat it in haste; it is the Lord's Passover." (Exodus 12:11). They were half-standing, dressed to leave, expecting the call at any moment. When it came, there would be no time to start getting ready. We need that same preparedness. We live in our homes and routines, cared for by God and feeling settled – but we are always called to remain ready: "with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace." (Ephesians 6:15). More urgently still, we must be ready for the return of Jesus, because there will be no time to get dressed then. "So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him." (Matthew 24:44). (Craig B). Open Bible – bit.ly/Exo12v11, bit.ly/Eph6v15, bit.ly/Mat24v44
