Soft vs hard

Soft vs hard

It’s soft, beautiful, and life-giving and appears to be able to be contained and controlled by hard materials like concrete and steel…until it isn’t, as we found out. A massive amount of rain had fallen on the nearby mountains, and soon the water was rushing down everywhere to our village below. Channels built to contain the flow were quickly overrun and water began creating its own course – across roads, through gardens, and houses. Nothing could withstand it. This soft liquid would not be contained by concrete or bricks, or asphalt. It carved a path through everything while we just watched, unable to resist its power. “God is Spirit” (John 4:24), and His touch is soft, beautiful, and life-giving and appears to be able to be contained and controlled by hard elements like humans and rulers…until He isn’t, as we will find out. Nothing can resist the power of God. “There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the LORD.” (Proverbs 21:30). His power cannot be contained, no matter what we think or do. Our human-made structures and ideologies may appear solid and powerful, and enduring, but they will all succumb to God’s power. “So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” (2 Corinthians 4:18).
