The unexpected danger

The unexpected danger

Europe boasts the remains of many old cities surrounded by walls and turrets. Built by Romans or during the Middle Ages, they were designed to keep invaders out and people safe. High walls and locked gates were the key to protection. Even in Bible times, David describes a city “whose walls are patrolled day and night against invaders” (Psalm 55:10). But then he surprises us, “the real danger is wickedness within the city.” It reminds me of the Trojan horse story. The walls couldn’t be breached from the outside; so they sneaked solders inside. Spiritually, we can be vigilant about external dangers, online influences, toxic media, or voices that distract us from truth, but often the greater threat lies inside us. Jesus said, “From within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness.… these are what defile you” (Mark 7:21–23). Fortresses fall from the inside, not just the outside. True safety is found when Jesus guards both. Open Bible – https://bit.ly/Psa55v10, https://bit.ly/Mar7v21-23 (Craig B)
