Swimming Between Flags

Swimming Between Flags

Recently while swimming in the sea, we noticed after a while that there was a strong sidewash. This only became apparent when we looked to the shore and saw that we had drifted outside of the swimming flags. It struck me that if those flags hadn't been there, indicating the safe zone monitored by the lifesavers, we would have just continued to drift without realising it. The same principle applies to our spiritual life. We may confess that we are Christians and have a strong faith in God, but that does not remove the need for our safety markers. If we don't keep our eyes on Jesus and consistently ground ourselves in the reading of God's Word, we can easily drift in the world's current and not even realise it. Slowly but surely, society and "modern thinking" will impact us until we are swept into dangerous waters. "We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away." (Hebrews 2:1). "Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming." (Ephesians 4:14). Today, look at your flag – "fixing your eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith." (Hebrews 12:2). (Craig B). Open Bible – bit.ly/HEB2V1, bit.ly/Eph4v14, bit.ly/heb12v2
