Are you waiting for something from God? As humans, we are generally not very good at waiting. We read Bible stories that, within a few verses or chapters, talk about a prayer and a response. However, often the gap is months or even years apart. Abraham and Sarah waited 25 years for God to answer their prayer for a son (Genesis 12:4-7, 21:5). Most of us like to try and do what we can to bring about the result we are waiting for. Yet sometimes, this doesn’t work, and we are left simply waiting. Feeling helpless. The psalmist says, “Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him” (Psalms 37:7). The word “rest” is translated elsewhere as “still as stone”(Exodus 15:16). Be as still as stone and wait patiently for God. It’s not easy for our self-fixing society. Yet there are times when God calls us into the space, the place of silence, of inactivity, of rest. And in this place, in God’s perfect and divine timing, he will answer our prayer. Today, find a place where you can be as still as stone, and listen and wait patiently for God.
