As a runner who has run races from 5 kilometres to marathons, one thing is always the same – the last few kilometres always feel so long. Whether it’s running kilometres 4 to 5 or kilometres 40 to 42, it seems like the end will never come. It feels like you are being tested to your limit. We are all running a much longer and harder race – the race of life. Now, as we reach the last days, it feels like we are being tested to our limits. It feels like we will never make it. And, about this, we are right. Jesus, talking about the last days, said – “This is going to be trouble on a scale beyond what the world has ever seen, or will see again. If these days of trouble were left to run their course, nobody would make it. But on account of God’s chosen people, the trouble will be cut short” (Matthew 24:21-22). The last few miles will be really difficult as people lose faith and sin grows worse and worse. But, unlike running races where we must get to the end, we take comfort in knowing that in the race of life, Jesus will bring the finish line to us. What a blessing. “Even so, come Lord Jesus…Amen”.
