It’s the Finishing That Matters

One of my biggest challenges is finishing things. I love starting projects, but as soon as they get boring or hard, I move on. In the tech world where I work, this shows up as hundreds of open windows on my computer – each one something unfinished. Starting matters, but without completion it carries little value, and nowhere is this more true than in our relationship with God. The Bible is full of people who began with great enthusiasm only to die having abandoned their faith. "The end of a matter is better than its beginning" (Ecclesiastes 7:8). Sadly, we live in a world where people increasingly can't see jobs, marriages, and most importantly a relationship with God through to the end. Jesus warned us that "No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God." (Luke 9:62). When I write these gospel bites, God often tests me on exactly what I write. I had just completed this message when I lost the whole thing. Abandoning it felt easier than starting over – yet I heard Him calling me back. It's the finishing that matters. Nowhere is this greater than what Jesus did for us, never stopping until sin was conquered. "It is finished." (John 19:30). Will you finish what God has started in you? (Craig B).
