It’s so unfair!

It’s so unfair!

"It's not fair," said Joe to Mary. "You've got those cool new shoes, and I've got these old ones." "It's not fair," said Sam to Joe. "You've got old shoes, but mine are broken." "It's not fair," said Linda to Sam. "You've got broken shoes, but I don't have any shoes." Then Dan looked at Linda and said, "It's not fair. You may have no shoes, but I have no feet." It's remarkably easy to feel life is unfair when we look at those who have more – a nicer home, a better job, more money, or simply an easier life. Comparison makes what we have suddenly feel inadequate. But comparison works in both directions. The very thing we complain about may be something another person desperately wishes they had. The old shoes we resent may look like an incredible gift to someone walking barefoot. Gratitude doesn't mean pretending life is always easy or fair. It means recognising that even in difficult circumstances, God has given us reasons to be thankful. Instead of focusing on what is missing, we begin noticing what is already in our hands. If you truly want to be great – be grateful. "Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you who belong to Christ Jesus." (1 Thessalonians 5:18) What will you thank God for today?
