Motivated to achieve

Recently, our team, the Springboks, won the Rugby World Cup Championship. Now, wherever I go I see kids playing rugby. It’s amazing how motivated people are to pursue a sport or activity when they have witnessed something amazing. Yet, while being motivated is important, achieving our goal is not just about starting but staying the course. It’s about determination and resolve – never giving up even when others do, or you feel demotivated. As children of God, we are inspired by the stories of people like Abraham, David, Paul and especially the incredible victory of Jesus. We are in awe of his life and determined to answer his call, “Follow me”. Yet when temptations and problems arise, we falter. But we have a special advantage. God gives us a special Spirit gift so we can stay the course – “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control” (Galatians 5:22-23). Empowered with God’s gift of self-control, keep your vision strong and “imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised” (Hebrews 6:12). Victory is assured!
