Will to succeed

Will to succeed

“The will to succeed is important, but what’s more important is the will to prepare.” These words from basketball coach Bobby Knight hold great wisdom. Many athletes desire success, but far fewer are willing to put in the preparation. Many students want to graduate, yet many fail due to a lack of effort. God is the ultimate example of preparation—“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world’” (Matthew 25:34). Since before creation, God has been preparing a place for us. But how do we respond? We may desire to be in His kingdom, but do we have the will to prepare? Are we willing to remove distractions and bad habits that pull us away from God? Are we committed to the daily discipline of prayer, Bible study, and serving others? True preparation is seen in how we live each day. It transforms us, making us “holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work” (2 Timothy 2:21).
