We have two Pekingese who are a joy to all the family. Dogs teach us so much about how we should live every day. As soon as they open their eyes each morning, they are excited to see you and want to plaster you with licks. Their joy reminds me of how we are asked to approach each new day. “This is the day the LORD has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24). While working the day away, my mind is filled with problems to solve and the many things on my To-do list while our dogs sleep contentedly beside me. Jesus tells us, “Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28). When we return after leaving them for a few hours, they greet us with exuberant joy. Is this how we wait for and desire our God? “But may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; may those who long for your saving help always say, “The LORD is great!” (Psalm 70:4). Let’s learn a lesson from our furry friends. Today, let’s start the day rejoicing. Seek God’s rest in our trials and, with eager anticipation, wait for Jesus’ return.
