You’re an idiot!

You’re an idiot!

“Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never hurt me” A child might use this rhyme to try and avoid being hurt by what is being said to them. However, this phrase is not true. Words are extremely powerful. In fact, the Bible starts with the words – “And God said, Let there be light”, and these words brought the universe into existence. Words create, but words also destroy. James doesn’t mince his words in his warning – “Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless.” (James 1:26). What! Is my religion worthless if I speak harshly, swear, or gossip? Surely the few times I talk unkindly don’t make my religion worthless? Jesus says, “I tell you this, you must give an account on judgment day for every idle word you speak. The words you say will either acquit you or condemn you.” (Matthew 12:36-37). God hears EVERY word we speak. Ask God to forgive you if you have spoken unkindly or inappropriately. Let Him fill you with his presence so your religion will not be worthless. So that your words will acquit you. So that your words will nourish and create. Open Bible – https://bit.ly/Mat12v36-37, http://bit.ly/Jam1v26
