Once upon a time, on a farm, while the farmer was away, his wife fell sick. As no one was around to carry a message to him, the farm animals decided to help. The goat set out first but fell into a muddy pit along the way. He struggled for hours to get out until exhaustion finally overcame him. Realising no help was coming, the pig decided to go. He, too, fell into a muddy pit. Landing in the soft cool mud was just too much to resist. He simply wallowed and fell asleep. Finally, the sheep decided to go. It also fell into a muddy pit. Realising immediately it could never get out, it began bleating. Eventually, its cries were heard by the farmer who came and rescued it and returned in time to help his wife. Which animal are you? Sometimes we are like the proud goat. We think in our energy we can save ourselves from sin, only to discover how futile our efforts are eventually. Or we can be like the pig, so drawn to the allure of sin we simply wallow in it, disregarding our fate. Or we can be like the sheep, realising our inability to save ourselves and calling on God to save us. And save us, he will. “He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand” (Psalms 40:2). Jesus, his name means saviour. Let him be that for you. Open Bible – http://bit.ly/psa40v2
