Smoking log

Smoking log

Campfire. It’s a word that, for most, will ignite a range of pleasant memories. Stories. Laughter. Friends. Peace. Warmth. Safety. Watching the logs crackle as the orange light dances across the faces of those around the fire brings pure joy. However, sometimes one of the logs starts to smoke, which can ruin the experience. There’s nothing worse than smoke blowing in your eyes. The smoking log either requires lungfuls of blowing or it is simply dragged out the fire. Despite us often being like smoke in the eyes of God, with our lack of faith, Jesus doesn’t extinguish us. “A bruised reed he will not break, and a smouldering wick he will not snuff out, till he has brought justice through to victory.” (Matthew 12:20). We are often like a smoking log or candle. In this state, we don’t offer light or warmth but simply an unpleasant smoke. Yet Jesus is patient with us and knows that where there is smoke, there can be fire. “For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.” (2 Timothy 1:6). And so, if your faith is low, pray to God to blow his Spirit powerfully into your life, and let him ignite a light and warmth that will bring joy to all around you.
