The dropped phone

The dropped phone

We were walking back home after a swim at the beach, carrying our clothes, shoes, and phones. Suddenly there was that horrible sound – the sound of a cellphone hitting the floor and sliding along the road. And then there is that moment of silence when the phone is picked up to see if it is cracked or broken. On this occasion, thankfully, the phone survived the ordeal. It made me wonder, how did the phone end up falling? It’s worth lots more than the shirts and shoes, yet it was the phone that dropped. It’s because it wasn’t being carefully held. The clothes were being held, and the phone, which was inside the shorts’ pocket, dropped. Isn’t this true for many things in life? We know what is precious – family, relationships, health, God, but somehow we cling to the unimportant things – wealth, pride, possessions. It’s the precious thing that falls and breaks or gets lost. It’s not intentional; it’s just we didn’t hold on to it as we should have. Thankfully God is not like this with us. We are precious to him, and as the Psalmist says, “If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.” (Psalm 139:9-10). Take a moment to think about what’s precious in your life and then lift it to God in prayer and hold it tight. Open Bible – http://bit.ly/psa139v9-10
