"Touch Life" was the name of a book I wrote many years ago. I was sitting half asleep on a beach chair while my small children laughed and played in the lapping waves. Warm and comfortable was lulling me to sleep while my kids touching the icy sea were full of life. It made me realise how vital it is to move out of the comfort zone, wake up, and truly live – not only in everyday life but spiritually too. We now live in a world more insulated from touch than when I wrote that book. Entertainment, communication, and relationships are increasingly filtered through technology. We are losing our touch of life. It's striking that God spoke all of creation into existence – stars, animals, everything – yet he made humanity with his hands: "Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being." (Genesis 2:7). Jesus healed by touch (Mark 1:41), broke bread by hand and gave it out (Matthew 26:26). He sweated, felt cold, heat, pain, and joy – a physical connection, not a beach-chair view. He touched life and was touched by life. "That which…our hands have touched-this we proclaim concerning the Word of life." (1 John 1:1). How will you touch lives as he touches yours? (Craig B).
