Galatians 5 carries a powerful warning for Christians in every generation: we can easily become divided by the very things we believe make us right. The Galatian church faced this problem. Some insisted that believers had to be circumcised to truly belong to God. Paul responded strongly because they were adding something to Christ as a requirement for righteousness. "You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace" (Galatians 5:4). He then points them back to the gospel's foundation: "For we through the Spirit eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness by faith" (Galatians 5:5). In Christ, all that avails is "Faith working through love" (Galatians 5:6). The same danger remains today. We may no longer argue about circumcision, but we can make our theology, denomination, or doctrinal understanding the measure of who truly belongs to Christ. The moment our confidence shifts from Christ to what we know or do, grace is replaced by self-confidence. Jesus did not come merely to make us better informed – He came to transform us from within. Correct doctrine cannot overcome the desires of the flesh; only Christ can change our nature through His Spirit. Our righteousness rests in Him, our transformation comes through Him, and our confidence must remain in Christ alone. (Nicky B).
