What do you worship?

What do you worship?

We were running on a beautiful stretch of road. The clouds were cascading over the mountains alongside us. I had just read Psalm 135: “He causes the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth; He makes lightning for the rain; He brings the wind out of His treasuries” (Psalm 135:7). When we open our eyes, we see God’s creative splendour, beauty and might all around us. As we continued our run, a fleet of over 30 luxury sports cars, participating in a rally, drove past. It made me think of the other part of Psalm 135: “The idols of the nations are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands. They have mouths, but they do not speak; eyes they have, but they do not see; they have ears, but they do not hear… Those who make them are like them; so is everyone who trusts in them” (Psalm 135:15–18). Do we worship the living God or the idols of money, leisure, possessions and careers? Psalms tells us we become like the God we worship. Are you alive in God’s Spirit, hearing His voice, seeing His glory—or are you blind and deaf to His presence, slowly becoming like the lifeless idols you trust? Only you know.
