Radical response

When there is an important event or place that people want to be, there is invariably a throng of people trying to push their way in. You will notice this as crowds try and enter a sports stadium or concert. Or really crazy is watching people rushing into stores to secure Black Friday deals. Yet more important than all these is the biggest event of all – God's Kingdom. He has promised us a life now filled with His presence and a life in the future that is eternal. It's no surprise then that when Jesus, the King, came and made the Kingdom real, that he said – "The Law and the Prophets were proclaimed until John. Since that time, the good news of the kingdom of God is being preached, and everyone is forcing their way into it." (Luke 16:16). This is a picture of the radical response the Kingdom message requires. God's offer cannot be responded to with passive religious observance – it demands a response. Something so exciting, so life changing requires us to give everything to be part of it. "Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest" (Hebrews 4:11). There are many things that excite us in life – sports, entertainment, travel – but none compare to God's Kingdom. Are you putting the same energy and passion into this as you do into your pursuits?
