I am very fortunate to be able to witness the harvest in the Franschhoek vineyards each year. Harvest time is the culmination of months of meticulous cultivation and years of hard work and planning, all to produce this incredible fruit. Proverbs speaks of our choice to make use of this abundance or not. ”He who gathers in summer is a son who acts wisely, But he who sleeps in harvest is a son who acts shamefully.“ (Proverbs 10:5). This timeless wisdom is found in a similar English saying “to make hay while the sun shines”. This emphasizes the importance of seizing opportunities when they arise. God provides us with many opportunities throughout our life and it’s our responsibility to pluck them and make use of them like the son who acts wisely. Not being like the son who sleeps on these precious moments, letting them fall away only to be wasted. Thankfully we also have a harvest that doesn’t just come in the summer. It’s one that yields each and every day – the Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). Just like vineyards require a bit of work on our part to flourish, so too we must put in our effort, powered by God, so we can reap the abounding rewards. And the more we partake, the more it yields, providing fruit for others and drawing them in to harvest too. Open Bible – https://bit.ly/Pro10v5, https://bit.ly/gal5v22-23 (Dean J)
