One Thing God Requires

One Thing God Requires

I have learned the Lord's Prayer since a child. Jesus gave us a framework for our prayers, but did we see that there is only one thing we are required to do? Everything else is from God. He gives us everything, and all He asks of us is to forgive. "Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses." (Matthew 6:9-15). Forgiveness shows love. To forgive when we are wronged is hard, but God forgives our human nature when we do things we know are not Christlike. "Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you." (Ephesians 4:32). Forgiving others demonstrates our love of God and our hope of the kingdom to come. Pray that every day we keep the Lord's commandments and are compassionate when others fail, as we ourselves also will fail. Jesus says, "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another." (John 13:34). (Helen M).
