During November, a group of friends and I participate in what we call Moovember. It’s a challenge to walk, run, cycle, or swim a set number of kilometres each day of the month, with the goal of getting fitter and thinner before the festive season. Using a spreadsheet and WhatsApp group, we track our daily mooves and can see how others are progressing. It’s pushed me to get moving even when I didn’t feel like it or when the weather wasn’t ideal. But what’s been incredible is seeing the physical improvements in myself and others as the month progresses. This challenge taught me that you can’t manage what you don’t measure. Tracking our progress and being accountable to the group keeps me going. Spiritually, the same principle applies. We need a daily regime of spiritual exercise and accountability to stay spiritually fit. Without it, we can quickly fall behind. It’s the same commitment the first Christians made: “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer” (Acts 2:42).
