If you happen to join a run, like your local parkrun, you are likely to also have kids running with you. When the starting signal is given, the kids race off at high speed. Normally, about a kilometre later, you catch up to them as they have slowed down. However, moments later, they race off again, and shortly thereafter, they slow down and walk again. I call this the slug-scuttle approach. Either they are going at slug speed, or they are racing at scuttle speed. However, typically, as the distance continues, it tends to become all “slug” as their energy is depleted. And it is the slow and steady runners who finish ahead of them. This is an important lesson, not only for running but for our spiritual race. We need to run with steady, consistent patience. “Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us” (Hebrews 12:1). Jesus is coming back. Don’t lose energy. Run in his energy with patience and endurance, and you will be rewarded. Open Bible – https://bit.ly/Heb12v1
