Divine accounting

In the Jewish law, every 50 years marked a profound event—the Year of Jubilee. It was an economic reset. If you’d lost your property due to debt or had to sell your land, it was returned. Debts were wiped out, and what belonged to your ancestors was restored. Today’s financial world is far from this. Debt hangs like a noose around many necks. People lose homes and possessions, often permanently. There’s no reset, no forgiveness without cost. So it’s no surprise that the Christian concept of grace feels foreign to many. But grace is the spiritual equivalent of Jubilee. It’s God’s offer to wipe away every sin – no repayment required. All we must do is repent and receive the gift. Paul uses a financial metaphor to explain this: “The wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23). Sin earns a wage – death. But God gives a gift – eternal life through Jesus. Jubilee isn’t just an ancient practice. It’s being offered to you today. And its impact isn’t temporary, it’s eternal.
