Barking at cars

Barking at cars

My brother’s pugs love barking at every car that drives past their house. They hurl muffled abuse at vehicles racing by, completely unaware of the dogs’ fury. The pugs wear themselves out barking, yet the cars and their drivers remain unaffected. It made me wonder how often we waste our own energy the same way. We stew in silent anger toward people who don’t even know we’re upset. Or we rant about leaders, politics, or the state of the world, yet our words change nothing. Like those pugs, we exhaust ourselves over things that don’t notice and won’t respond. Life offers endless reasons to be angry—but holding onto that anger rarely hurts the one we’re angry with. It only hurts us. Instead of barking at passing “cars,” the Psalmist offers a better way: “Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret—it leads only to evil.” (Psalms 37:8). Let go of the useless outrage. It’s not worth your peace. Open Bible – bit.ly/Psa37v8 (Craig B)
