“Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.” (Albert Einstein). That’s great advice from our modern world’s cleverest person. And most of us would agree wholeheartedly and laugh at others who are “insane”. However, before we think this is something only others do, let’s read a quote from another even wiser man thousands of years before Einstein. “Enjoy what you have rather than desiring what you don’t have. Just dreaming about nice things is meaningless—like chasing the wind” (Solomon, Ecclesiastes 6:9). Yet now, thousands of years after Solomon wrote this, billions of people are still chasing tomorrow rather than living today. Walk into a shopping mall, turn on the TV, or scroll through social media, and you will see desire being sold – what you could be – what you could have. And so, slavishly, we spend our money and time chasing fashions, trends, and the wind of tomorrow. Yet the only reality is today. The only certainty is now. The only place life is lived is in the present. God has given you the gift of today. Don’t be fooled by the endless pursuit of the world’s desires. God offers much more fulfilment today. Don’t be insane and chase the wind. “Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart” (Psalms 37:4).
