Gossip or Gospel

Gossip or Gospel

When you open your mouth, what comes out? Gos… How would you finish this word? It makes a huge difference. Gos…sip or Gos…pel. When the words are spoken, they both may have the same sweet taste in the mouth. Gossip – Did you hear what Tanya said to her friends? Gospel – Did you hear what Jesus said to his disciples? However, while both may taste sweet in the mouth of the speaker, the results of the words once they are spoken are vastly different. Gossip ultimately hurts feelings, destroys relationships, and spreads evil, while the gospel – God’s good news, heals hurt, restores relationships, and spreads life. “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” (Proverbs 18:21). According to a study done in 2019, people spend about 52 minutes per day, on average, gossiping. Imagine what our world and relationships would be like if we spent even half this time sharing the gospel instead of gossip. “Jesus said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” (Mark 16:15).
