There’s a story in the times of the kings of Israel and Judah when there was a battle between them and another kingdom. However, they ran out of water for their armies in the desert. In desperation, they turn to God through Elisha, the prophet. He tells the king, despite their lack of faith, “this is what the LORD says: You will see neither wind nor rain, yet this valley will be filled with water, and you, your cattle and your other animals will drink.” (2 Kings 3:17). The next morning water miraculously flows into the valley. There was no rain or storm, yet the water came. The amazing thing is that God provided what they most needed without them knowing how. It’s the same promise for us. In our times of desperate need, God will care for us in ways we will never understand. But it doesn’t end there. Elisha then says, “This is an easy thing in the eyes of the LORD; he will also deliver Moab into your hands” (2 Kings 3:18). Meeting their needs was easy for God. He also used this to give them victory in an unexpected way. God will not only show up in the most miraculous ways in our time of need, he “is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us” (Ephesians 3:20).
