What would you say you are devoted to? Sports? Work? Family? Most of us are devoted to something. If you are unsure, simply look at what you spend most of your time and energy on. We are told what the first-century believers devoted themselves to. “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” (Acts 2:42). There were four things that were most important in their lives – the teaching of God, being together to support each other, remembering Jesus’ sacrifice, and prayer. This doesn’t mean they didn’t have jobs and lives to live. Yet, for them, their devotion, their energy, and their focus were clear. God’s Word. God’s Family. God’s Love. God’s connection. While life will always have many activities and pursuits, let’s choose wisely what we devote ourselves to. Choose that which doesn’t just give fleeting pleasure but eternal reward (Romans 6:23). “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” (Mark 12:30). That’s praying with all your heart, living Jesus with all your soul, reading the Bible with all your mind, and loving others with all your strength. Now that’s devotion!
