There is a subtle but profound difference between trying to live like Jesus and allowing Christ to live within me. One is effort-driven, the other is Spirit-formed. When I strive in my own strength to imitate him, I quickly discover my limits, my patience wears thin, my love falters, and my resolve weakens. Scripture reminds me, “the flesh profits nothing” (John 6:63). But the gospel offers something far deeper than imitation, it offers transformation. “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me” (Galatians 2:20). This is not behaviour management, it is a new life. As I surrender, his Spirit reshapes my desires, responses, and character from the inside out. Jesus did not simply come to set an example, but to make a way for his life to be reproduced in me. “Abide in me, and I in you… apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:4–5). Abiding replaces striving. Dependence replaces self-effort. The result is not perfection overnight, but a steady forming of Christ within me (Galatians 4:19). This is the invitation, not to try harder, but to yield deeper so that I may truly walk as He walked (1 John 2:6).
