Chasing the dream

Chasing the dream

Open any Facebook or Instagram page, and what do you see? Beautiful homes, dream holidays, perfect people, successful lives. And how does it make you feel? Envious, restless, wishing for more? James warns us about this: “But if you harbour bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such ‘wisdom’ does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice” (James 3:14-15). Chasing beauty, wealth, or fame never brings lasting joy. Instead, we’re called to seek God’s wisdom: “But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere” (James 3:17). A life rooted in God’s wisdom is one filled with purity, peace, love, humility, forgiveness, and sincerity – and that is where true contentment and joy are found.
