There is a story about a king called Ahaz who is attacked. His first response when he realizes he is in trouble is to get help – a normal and necessary response when we face situations beyond our own ability. But where we look makes all the difference. Ahaz sends a message to the king of Assyria, saying, "Come up and save me"…And Ahaz took the silver and gold found in the temple of the LORD and in the treasuries of the royal palace and sent it as a gift to the king of Assyria." (2 Kings 16:7-8). Ahaz doesn't turn to God – he seeks help from man and strips God's temple to fund it. The result: the very power he trusted eventually dominated his kingdom. How often do we do the same? God doesn't say we shouldn't seek human help, but the problem is when that's always where we turn first – and when we give time and resources meant for God to things we believe will save us. Maybe it's time with family sacrificed for career "stability," or money redirected from others to our own comfort. We grow so busy solving our problems that prayer and time with God are the first things we abandon. "I lift up my eyes to the mountains- where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth." (Psalms 121:1-2). Where will you look for help today? Open Bible – bit.ly/2Ki16v7-8, bit.ly/psa121v1-2
