On Sunday we faced a raging wildfire threatening to consume my brother and sister-in-law’s home. The fire swept down from the mountain and began encircling their house. One marker we used to track its progress was a large cross my brother had erected near the top of his property. It marked the end of a reflective walk designed to draw attention to God’s presence in our lives. Soon the flames surged past the cross, consuming everything in their path. By God’s grace, a change in wind and the help of volunteers spared the house. As fire crews departed, my brother and I decided to see if the cross had survived. That decision proved vital. On our way up we heard crackling – while the fire above and to the right had been contained, it was circling around the left. We quickly called others, cut a defensive line, and stopped it just in time. Then we pressed on to the cross. Everything was charred and smoking, but as we crested the ridge, there it stood – untouched, the area around it preserved. It was a visible reminder that God watches over us even when things feel out of control. “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” (1 Corinthians 1:18). God is greater than anything you will ever face. Look to Him. (Craig B). Open Bible – https://bit.ly/2Co1v18-20
