We have a nice, big garden at our home. The front section has beautiful green grass, while the area at the back has become overrun with thorns. Because our garden is too big for me to manage, I often only tend to the front lawn. It made me think how similar our lives can be. When our “garden”, our time and priorities, becomes filled with work, social media, and everyday distractions, we neglect the parts of life that truly matter. Soon, thorns begin to grow in our hearts too, choking out peace, joy, and closeness with God. Jesus said, “The seed falling among the thorns refers to someone who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, making it unfruitful.” (Matthew 13:22). Just like a garden needs care to thrive, our spiritual lives need time and tending. When we make space for God, He clears the thorns and brings new growth to our life.
