Choosing your pattern

Choosing your pattern

My fiancé and I have a daily routine (well, we try) where we ask each other what we are grateful for from the day before. Most days are pretty easy; there is so much to be thankful for: health, love, etc. But, somehow, when you are having a terrible day, it’s tough to think of something. When things start going wrong, we focus on the bad and stacking up lists of negative things. It’s difficult to break the pattern and shift our mindset. But this is when it is so important to change our thinking patterns. The world around us is influenced by the external, and so people fall into the pattern of bad to worse to worst. In Romans 12:2 we read, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you can test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” We have the Spirit of the Lord in us, meaning we do not have to be influenced by the external. We have love, joy, peace, kindness – the fruit of the Spirit poured into our hearts. We can break the pattern. Today, put on God’s lenses and see the good, even in the bad. Give thanks!
