On a warm Sunday afternoon in September, while enjoying a barbecue, we noticed thick black smoke coming from our neighbour’s property. Going across, we found a wooden cabin in flames. By the time the flames were extinguished, it was just a shell. Thankfully, the tenant, a young student, was out, but all his belongings were destroyed, and he lost his home. He was devastated. It was early Monday morning, exactly a year later. We were experiencing a major storm. The river, usually a gentle stream, was raging. Suddenly changing course, it flattened the trees and wooden cottage which had caught fire a year earlier. If anyone had been in the cottage, they would have been killed instantly. Terrible things happen in life. We lose our job; our house burns down; our car is stolen; ill health prevents a holiday. But living in God’s will means He directs our steps, and these very events could be life-saving. Our Father loves us and cares for every detail of our lives. “For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways” (Psalms 91:11). So when bad things happen, instead of complaining or losing faith, keep your trust in God. For in this very event, God could be saving your life now and eternally.
