Perseverance

Perseverance

The day had arrived—my daughter was in labour. There was much excitement. We started the day with a 10k run. It was a warm morning, and 2km into the run I felt like turning around. Then I thought, if my daughter could endure a day of labour pains, my tiredness was nothing in comparison. Then I thought, how often do I think of Jesus, who for our sakes endured unimaginable torture, pain and suffering so that through His death we might experience healing. “He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5). When life feels tough, when you feel like giving up, think about Jesus—all the pain and suffering He endured so we could be healed. “And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith…Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart” (Hebrews 12:1–3).
