Many roads where we live are named after people who I assume were once well-known. However, now few know who they are. The tradition of naming things after people happens all over the world., but after a few generations, most have no idea who the person was. In Psalms 49:11-13 we read about those who live without God – “Their tombs will remain their houses forever, their dwellings for endless generations, though they had named lands after themselves. People, despite their wealth, do not endure; they are like the beasts that perish.” We can name whatever we like after ourselves, but it won’t keep us or our memory alive. However, there is a way to ensure we are not forgotten. “Then those who feared the LORD talked with each other, and the LORD listened and heard. A scroll of remembrance was written in his presence concerning those who feared the LORD and honoured his name.” (Malachi 3:16). When God is the centre of your life when it’s His name you want exalted and remembered, He writes your name in His book, where it is never forgotten. When next you see a street or building named after someone, ask yourself, “Am I striving for this pointless glory, or am I living to make God’s name great, knowing he will cause my name to be remembered and my life to be restored forever?” Open Bible – https://bit.ly/mal3v16, https://bit.ly/Share2Friends
