“It’s with joy that we would like to invite you to the wedding of…” There is something wonderful about receiving an invitation to a celebration, especially a wedding. Life is so full of bad news, and so an opportunity to celebrate is truly special. However, while some will go out of their way to attend, others will give reasons why they can’t make it. Jesus told a story about this. He tells a story about a king who is having a huge celebration and invites many guests. However, everyone gives excuses -“ I’ve just got a new house”, “I have just got a new job”, “I’m just so busy”. It seems crazy. Who wouldn’t want to be at a royal wedding? And so the king invites the “poor, the crippled, the blind and the lame” (Luke 14:21). He invites those who are considered unworthy – and they all accept. The good news is we have all been invited to the greatest marriage of all – to be part of the bride of Christ. The question is, are you among those who have excuses or those who are simply in awe of being invited? “Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!” (Revelation 19:9).You are invited.
