It seems like it’s a day always in the future. Sure, it will come, but one day in the future. And then, slowly, slowly, suddenly, it’s here. The wedding day has arrived. It’s almost too much to take in. Today is the day. It’s a scene from God’s postcard. Mountains rise majestically in the distance while a glorious sun-kissed day washed by a gentle breeze carries the scent of flowers and the song of birds. As the bride arrives with a joyous song, love bursts forth. As she walks down the aisle through a sea of joy to her waiting groom, it’s almost too overwhelming to contain as heaven’s gift and earth’s joy meet in love. The day is here. The wedding day. A day more beautiful than imagined. More glorious than dreamed. Yet this is just a taste revealed of what God has promised when heaven’s groom meets earth’s bride. Joy and love beyond what mortal hearts can contain. For “no human mind has conceived the things God has prepared for those who love him” (1 Corinthians 2:9). And while that day may seem like it is always in the future, that day slowly, slowly, suddenly will arrive, and our joy will turn to sight. “Behold, I am coming quickly!“ (Revelation 22:7).
