Looking with intent

Looking with intent

We are a super noisy family, everyone has a loud voice and we all talk at the same time. When we get together for a family meal it can get really loud, and at a restaurant it’s not uncommon to draw the hairy eyeball look from others. Yet somehow, despite the noise, we still manage real conversations, even with someone on the other side of the table. Observing this recently, I realised there are only two ways to hear someone in a noisy environment: reduce the noise, or focus on the speaker. Reducing the noise wasn’t likely, so we focused. By giving our full attention to the person speaking, it’s possible, despite all the other conversations, to hear exactly what they’re saying. Our brains are powerful at ignoring everything else when we choose what matters. We all live lives that are noisy. Life is full of noise, our worries, social media, work demands, entertainment, and more. In that noise we might find it impossible to hear God. Is He still talking to us? How can we hear Him? We might not be able to reduce the noise, but we can focus on Him. “Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus” (Hebrews 12:1-2). Today, take time to look with intent to Jesus, and you will hear Him, despite the noise in your life. (Craig B) Open Bible – https://bit.ly/Heb12v1-2
