“Settle down, everyone. It’s time for the exam”. These are words that put fear into most people. Yet exams are essential. They do everything from checking our understanding of things to checking our health. But there is one exam that matters more than all others – examining our life. “Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the LORD.” (Lamentations 3:40). We are called to examine our ways and recommit to God. Paul reminds us again of this exam when he says, “Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you —unless, of course, you fail the test?” (2 Corinthians 13:5). It’s a simple test, unlike the difficult exams you might have faced, or still face, at school or university. It’s just a one-question exam. Is Jesus living in you? That’s it! If he is, your life will reflect love, joy, and peace – regardless of your situation. If he isn’t, it will be obvious. However, the good news is that we can retake this exam because of God’s grace, and choose to return to him. So, settle down. It’s time for the exam. Is Jesus living in you?
