Put up your hand, who wants to be God? If we’re honest, most of us would. It was this very offer that led to humanity’s first sin: “You will be like God” (Genesis 3:5). Adam and Eve couldn’t resist the serpent’s offer. We live in a world of small gods, from politicians in motor cavalcades to the wealthy flaunting power, to everyday people defining their own truth and demanding their own way. G.O.A.T. (Greatest Of All Time) is the title many chase. Even if we can’t be the GOAT, we worship those who are – athletes, entertainers, business moguls. We crave greatness and worship it. Yet Jesus flipped greatness upside down: “The one who is least among you all is the greatest” (Luke 9:48). Though crowds wanted to crown Him king, Jesus withdrew (John 6:15). He “did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Matthew 20:28). True greatness isn’t found through fame or power, it’s found through service. “Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all” (Mark 9:35). How will you be great today?
