Beyond the Half-Full Glass

Beyond the Half-Full Glass

There are three views we can have of life. The pessimist who sees the glass half empty – focused on what we lack. The optimist who sees it half full – focused on what could be. Or the Psalmist, who sees past the glass entirely – focused on who is enough. "You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows" (Psalms 23:5). This is a radical shift in perspective – not on what we don't have or could have, but on the Provider Himself. Abraham, the great man of faith, acquired many possessions, yet he learned early that these were not his reward or his focus. God told him, "I am your shield, your very great reward." (Genesis 15:1). It is He who fills the cup who is our reward. Life will always bring moments where our cup feels half empty, or we strain toward optimism and call it half full. But rather than saying "my cup is half empty" like the pessimist, or "my cup is half full" like the optimist, be like the Psalmist and say "LORD, you alone are my inheritance, my cup of blessing." (Psalms 16:5). Today, fix your focus not on what you lack or might have, but on He who gives you all you will ever need. (Craig B). Open Bible – bit.ly/psa23v5, bit.ly/gen15v1, bit.ly/Psa16v5
